So, is it petty that I'm disappointed a drawing didn't make it to Explore? I am really happy with my "what's in the wardrobe" quest and thought it might show in the Explore pages. I feel like it's petty and childish.
Side note, with all this talk of not liking what has been featured because it's not your personal favorite, have any of you ever drawn something to play to the crowds? I, shame face, did once. I drew a superhero quilt as an experiment to see if it would do better simply because of the content. By the way, it did way better than the animal quilt I did.

Ooh... Here's mine: my mini goal then was to make it to best of DQ. And i'd look at their tumblr to see any pattern of what they might choose as best of DQ. Well, it just frustrated since i can't seem to understand what they might like (or what is pretty in their eyes) so I stopped caring about it. And.. i just draw random shift even if it looks total crap. Same with explore. I was hoping to see mine there. At least once. It's so awkward when all your friends are there EXCEPT you. Like someone out there is telling you "you suck big time, loser"... LOL
Now i don't give a flying fork about explore page and best of dq. I still browse but I don't pay much attention. i accepted the fact My current skills (or lack thereof) would never ever make me land there. XD I'm not skillful nor creative enough. Besides, i just feel frustrated and it hinders me more from drawing anything so... There.
Well, one can dream, right? XD (i think most people want to see their drawing on best of dq anyway... It's a special star to your drawing. An extra boost , hehe)
Yeah, I went with the "current flavor of the month" in terms of drawing. Jumping into the current fad every now and then. Well, it gets boring after sometime. It feeds the need to get some stars.. Then.. Meh. XD
Well, sometimes if i want to jump into the bandwagon i do jump in, sometimes i don't. I just draw and draw when i feel like it, and not draw when i don't want to. XD
Now i am back to my mediocre doodles. I know it's not going to pass the standards but meh. I don't care anymore. This is just me. I accepted my drawing won't get anywhere. Might as well just have fun here. :3 I don't understand why my reply is also quoted but. Hahaha! Okay. XD Ahh, just to be clear. I am pretty chill while sharing sll of this.xD no sad feelings xD

Sorry dommers, my sarcasm wasn't transmitted! Haha No worries those were drunken posts. That and the fact that I don't really like that one drawing. And tequila, mostly tequila.... It just tastes sooo good. If anything I was being stupid and Vice Prez of team disco Chan put me in my place. Which is her duty. But no, I took no offence

Wow. Yes explore has increased follows and star count. Probably the search has helped for those who have been looking for people for a time. I don't understand how pics are chosen for the FB, tumblr or Explore features either. I think it maybe based on subject as opposed to skill. Not saying that the skill level is not good in the drawings, but just that they are choosing different levels of skill to showcase. I'm usually surprised at what pics of mine get the most stars because they are not usually the ones that I like the most. Art is not math. So subject to personal feeling, just the way it is. We are all great in our own way. Anything you create is art if you put some of yourself into it! Draw on peeps!

I like explore for the new artists I am now following but I don't like it that the same people get posted time and time again and some of the other drawings are just plain mediocre. And I really don't like it cuz none of my drawings have been posted and my feelings are hurt and I'm a big baby! Really though I think my last few drawings regarding " what's in your wardrobe" were quite okay for a non-artist like me and were as good as some of the others. Oh well. At least you guys like me. That's all I really care about.

Really difficult to work out what criteria DQ use when selecting drawings for Explore or Best of Draw Quest.
No one was more surprised than myself when my sub quest drawing made it to Tumblr. It was drawn in a hurry very little time spent on it and certainly not my best drawing. Maybe a certain drawing triggers a past memory or emotion in the selector's mind and that colours their choice.
That said, when we look at drawings on Explore, bear in mind we are again looking at the selectors choice , not our own. There are hundreds of drawings in the gallery which never see the light of day, I don't know the answer to this, because no one has time to trawl through everything. I am just conscious of the fact that the night I did trawl the gallery, I found 4 amazing drawings with few stars and never featured on Explore.
Like Black Rosé, I draw because I like drawing, the stars and no. of followers, aren't my main concern, I just love looking at how everyone interprets a different theme. I appreciate all your talent and I just love humour, it makes for a brighter day.

I have noticed some seriously subpar drawings up there. I do agree that regcas's drawings should have taken the spot of the drawings I've seen up there. They really should just showcase the best in concept and/or technique so others are motivated to draw well. I've noticed a decrease in writers on DQ, but then again, since explore is available I have stopped scrolling through the quest gallery.

But in the last few days I've noticed that they are getting a lot of mediocre drawings on there. Many of them are for sure better than the majority of the drawings on DQ, but they are not as good as others that aren't posted on Explore. I don't mind the same people being posted as long as the work is really good. I wonder If DQ has gotten complaints about not showing a wider range of artists on Explore.

I agree that the artists that are always postedd SHOULD be there and you/ we know who you are and you guys are the best of the best. But others of us have been neglected and some should have been posted and I don't mean me this time. I did complain to DQ. They said drawings are not manually chosen. They are chosen by software. I told them that their software is in need of repair because it is neglecting some very good drawings in favor of some not so good ones. They accepted my criticism as valid and will look into it. I hope all you great drawers need not feel bad cuz software doesn't have feelings anyway. . We appreciate each others work so much. We don't need Explore or Tumblr to feel validated, right guys! All of you are awesome. I love you guys.

Yer so sweet. I was just being a baby. Like u said. Software doesn't have a brain or a heart so I hope it helps knowing that Explore doesn't manually chose drawings. All of you that haven't been posted are really soooo talented. And the community loves you. Right! Right

they said it was an algorithm thing. I was thinking then if the al thing chooses based on the most starred pics. (I thought then that most starred can be a really good pic since many likes it). But yeah, i saw some random stuff that doesn't have much stars... So. was like.. "Ehh wat?"
Wahahha, well i am no programmer, just a random doodler. I just use explore button to search for users :3 (but i do find gem drawings every now and then)

I've also noticed that only 1 drawing per artist, and most of the drawings are from the previous days quest. It would be good if they can some how incorporate older drawings

It certainly would seem that the quality of the drawings on Explore has fallen a bit since the first few days. In fairness, though, we must remember a couple of stated points of both the application itself and the explore mode. First, everything in the app is meant to foster creativity and help the budding artists form a community. Second, the explore mode is meant to help people discover new artists they may not yet have heard of, and not just the very best ones.
If the mode consistently only showed works from the very elite, it would soon become utterly pointless. Most users probably already follow most of the great ones or at least are aware of them, so it would be redundant to see their work also in explore mode. And having only exceptional content in the view would create a psychological barrier of entry for new users to even try out the app. Finally, anyone should feel fortunate and satisfied when they get featured instead of thinking they should be included by default, no matter whether they have a thousand followers or a dozen.
All that said, DrawQuest folks can probably fine tune the algorithm every now and then.

We can scroll the gallery if we want to see the okay stuff. This gives people something to strive for. I want to know I've earned my place, not received a participation trophy. That said, you are probably right, and I'm just being mean.

No means am I saying it should be a prize for participation, quite the opposite. When I said you should feel fortunate and satisfied, it's because you'd be both good enough and lucky enough. But I don't want anyone to feel they are entitled to get featured, no matter how good they are. That kind of thinking can lead to complacency and stagnation.
Of course the best efforts should be rewarded, but that is what the stars and followers are for. If you get hundreds of stars and followers, you already are being rewarded far more than the average. But for the explorer mode, as much as I LIKE seeing works from the artists I like and follow, that's not strictly NECESSARY for the view to fulfil its primary task, and it certainly isn't strictly necessary for me to see my own works. The main purpose is to feature new and relatively unknown talent. I don't know how the algorithm really works, but in my opinion, it should give heavier weight to those artists who do get more likes and followers than the average, but are not necessarily (yet) in the top 10%. The very top would also be featured, but perhaps less often.
Obviously that would mean that once you have been featured a few times, you'd then start appearing less often as you gain more followers, but then, eventually, new people might in their turn surpass you, and you'd again be given more weight. Such would be the ebb and flow of the explore view.
And finally, once again it needs to be kept in mind that while many artists are highly competitive, the purpose of the app is not competition. It is to have fun and try to feed your creativity. At all skill levels, not just at the very top.
