For me it's simple, they have to regularly post drawings that are either well drawn, like really really well drawn, or less well executed but high on humor.
I will not follow bad artist or people who don't post at least once every few days. I have never followed someone who asks to be followed either.
Also, do you ever unfollow? I just unfollowed about 20 people because they hadn't posted in over a month, or suddenly the quality of posts really went down (I think there was only one of these, probably a parent who got bored and let the kid take over the profile).

Pretty much what she said , mean Geri. Really good artists who post regularly and do a really really great job. Also high on humor gets a star even if not drawn as well. I have also un-followed about ten people lately who haven't posted in awhile and have gotten bored or lost their desire to draw with their eyes open And I won't follow anyone who asks for it or chats instead of draws for a living. Like I mentioned in the beginning... Everything mean Geri said.

So far this hasn't been an issue for me. It'll be quite the dilemma if it ever happens. Be kind to a child and be irritated every time I see scribbles in the activity feed, or ignore the kid, feel like a tool for 5 minutes, and keep on enjoying my activity feed.

followed someone because i like their drawings. (Cute drawings, weird but artistic drawings, really nice drawings, cute fanarts, etc etc)
I only unfollow when profile turns into chatter profile and messes up my activity feed.

I haven't been here for a while but I do check in once in a while to see what's going on. I am ending up with quite a list of both people I'm following & ones who follow me. I appreciate the different perspectives & divergent thinking processes!
I, too, tend to do what Mean Geri has said about following artists. The artists have to consistently post good quality work and I do make accommodations for younger kid artists. I dispose the "follow me" thing - I tend to ignore these. When someone follows me, I usually like to check out their profile to see their work. If I like their work, I follow them. If I don't follow them, I usually can find several pieces that look interesting and star them. I do follow a few kids (& adults) who sometimes post work that I feel they can do better on (like they were in a hurry... Not much thought put into it). I simply ignore those pictures, hoping they get the idea that there needs to be some passion put unto the art.
i am always amazed by the creativity, the humour & quality of work. That's what is inspiring! Okay, I'll stop blithering on, now. Keep on creating! Artsy & Crafty

I like to follow someone that stimulates my interest into looking further into their profile. A lot of times I find that I am not disappointed in their work if they very their art and do different things with the topic that is not expected. Even if they do the expected they are able to create their own interpretation with their unique style giving the subject their personal stamp. Several artist on DQ can consistently do that. To me that is real talent and a gift and I look for those artist to follow so I can learn.

Pretty much everything that everyone above said: I will follow people if they have technical skill, humor, creativity, consistency, appear to be putting in effort or are interesting or inspirational. If I see promise in someone just starting out, I will follow to see where it goes because I know that the skill to draw is something that can grow with time. I don't follow if the person asks or just chats; most usually it seems to be the genie lamp for some strange reason...I don't follow just because someone follows me. I will unfollow if the account appears to be inactive. This is sometimes a hard call as there have been some amazing people drawing but who have for one reason or another stopped.

I follow good artists-that's it! I love the new explore function, it lets me discover great DQers. The only reason I'll unfollow someone is if they chat, I absolutely hate chatters! If you can't express yourself through drawings and have to talk instead, then DQ is not the place for you!! I don't really mind if someone doesn't post too often... For example the DQer Canadian I unfollowed her today because as she said in the last drawing she made her drawing skills aren't as good as before and she barely goes on anymore so I thought: what's the point in following... It kinda made me sad because she was one of the best!
