I have just updated automatically to unfortunately get the new DQ update 3.0. I have mixed feelings about this update, mostly negative. Please let me know what all of you think. Pros and cons and your overall response to the new update. Thanks guys. Regcas

Well, it is definitely slower in some respects. It seems to freeze more often. I like that I don't have to spin the color wheel to pick the color I want to use. Patty the paint can is useful to a degree although I wish she worked like paint cans in other drawing programs. What am I forgetting?

Mixed feelings
i like the paint can but wish it filled areas. I like being able to access colours faster. I like the zoom but rarely use it as my style mainly uses rough and ready brush strokes. I don't have the patience to do fine detailed work. I have noticed a bug with the zoom. When I returned to a half finished drawing it had shrunk to fill only two thirds of the canvas.
I like most of the new icons and splash screen. In general the whole interface seems faster and more responsive. I get far less drawing lag.
i hate the new colour palette. I hate the lack of contrast so images no longer have a decent border. However, the new clean layout would be an improvement for me given a better colour palette.

Well my feelings are in agreement with everyone else. I hate the border as does Raymond. It doesn't give the drawing a contrasting finish so the drawing doesn't stand out as before. The colors seem a lot more washed out and I don't know if that's because of the zoom feature, the border or something else. The drawings seem smaller to me and smaller next to others on the activity board. The whole thing seems slower to me. The zoom isn't something I use and it makes the drawing surface shaky and wobbly. The lack of a color wheel is better I guess. I'm just unhappy about the whole thing. It looks less professional and more cheesy like the drawings on the other drawing apps of a lesser quality. I guess the DQ gods wanted to get more people involved in the app so it's formatted to fit the iPhone and iPod. I wish they would have just updated this for those mobile devices and left our ipad DQ alone! I was hopeful that this would be better as the DQ gods had said but it's not. I'm feeling more blasé about this update every day and I used to be excited every morning to draw and see what the other artists had done. Now I just grin and bear it. If it weren't for the wonderful people I've connected with through this app and board, I might have quit this app after this update. Poor me. . Sorry guys.

I contacted DQ and inquired if it you had to eventually upgrade your Ipad to continue on DQ. They responded quickly saying that the new version platform was for the IPhone and iPod and at this time there was no need to upgrade if you did not choose to. So at this time it might be best to wait until the design is for the iPad.Regcas maybe you could take you're ipad to a Apple store and they can put you back to where you were before the upgrade.

Awwwwe you are so sweet to say that smithcarol. I'm getting used to the update now. I'm glad you contacted DQ. I hope they can do better for the ipad people because we are so loyal to this app. But even though I don't like change sometimes, change is good. And the update is for the iPhone and iPod people so we have to welcome them and change! I'm trying not to be a bratty baby about this. Thanks for thinking if me sweetie. The connections I've made with such nice people on this app is something I would not want to give up even with updates that don't appeal to me. I hope I didn't scare you about the update. It will be okay but glad you saw it on your iPhone first. Wish I had.

Basically I like the new features in the update very much. Huge improvement in several areas, now it's so easy to fill in the canvas with a chosen colour and even superimpose another colour on top to get an entirely new colour. The colour chart is great and it's so easy to choose a colour now instead of the annoying spinning wheel. Love the new pastels and the zoom, incredible improvement for fine work.
The activity feed is now well organised and one can see at a glance new posts, starred drawings and new followers, so much quicker and easier to view.
HOWEVER because the update has now rolled out to IPhone the whole character of starring and followers has changed radically. We are inundated with stars and new followers, at one point yesterday the activity feed just couldn't cope and shut down. It is now operating normally, but if one takes time to look at the profiles of all these new followers and stars 99% appear to be from kids who don't even post drawings or just submit random scribbles! They appear to blithely star and tick everything in sight. It's not what DQ is all about, surely one should be judicious and star and follow on merit or personal appeal, which is largely how it used to be before the update.
Sometimes small and beautiful is a good thing, I now feel it's all got rather out of hand, and all the starring and following rather meaningless.

I felt the same way DeeDee about all the starring. It was nice to have a smaller community of artist that enjoyed each others talents. Maybe the new version will cool off after time and more serious artist will stick with DQ and we will get to enjoy their work.

Ok, so I have the IOS7 now. And DQ3. And my Ipad2 is still working M'y biggest complaint is the gray colour of the font. My eyesight is not good, so the characters are very hard to read. what was wrong with black? I need to rely on the little round icon to recognize the users and even that, this is small. Again, what was wrong with the larger square icon? Minor complaints: The followers are all mixed up (no more sorted alphabetically for me). And Explore is slow to find a followers. Our individual web site has changed. It is no longer showing as a sorted banner of our top 6-7 starred drawings. And... I don't like the easter bunny colours (pink, light turquoise, etc...yuk). Tonight, I will try the new features. Let's meet this Mr.Zoom and Ms ChartColours! I did not buy Miss PaintCan yet, but that will be next. Hummm .... We need to change the Thank you frequency. 100 followers per day??!! As Wilso is saying, this is a crazy bonanza!!!!!!

I remember when I started in DrawQuest back in the old days (earlier this year) I starred anything that looked half good and followed anything better than that. These "newbies" are no different from me when I started. The only difference is back then there might have been a dozen newbies each day. Since the iPhone release there has been a flood.
If the ratios stay the same there will be a lot of dropouts in the coming weeks and the flood will settle down to a biggish trickle. BUT there will be a lot more great drawings out there, great new artists to discover, star and follow and a lot more people on our forum. New blood, what a great time to be a vampire.
Welcome to the newbies.

I hope you are right Wilso, but I have yet to find any of these great new artists since the new update. All the new stars and followers seem to be confined to the kids who don't draw and star and follow everything and everybody in sight., I take your point that as a one time newbie you did the same, difference is you were probably contributing by drawing as well as starring. Incidentally, following my report of a fault on the activity feed, DQ tell me they are putting out a new update soon, can't imagine what it might be??

I agree with all the fore mentioned stuff by Smithcarol, Deedee, Lamijavin( Lami), and Wilso. I do like it better now. The colors don't seem as washed out as before. But it's hard to see and pay great attention to all our old followers with the onslaught of newbies. I used to go to the profile of each and every new follower and star some of their drawings but now thTs impossible. There are so many. And I agree that most of them don't even draw or draw poop and other stupid stuff. ( poop drawings never cease to amaze these kids). Anyway I do miss the attention to those who seriously want to draw. They don't have to be great artists. I hate this to be that competitive. But it would be nice if they enjoyed drawing. Some of these people obviously want to learn given the great numbers of "plays" I'm seeing. And that's really good. As some of the newbies ARE taking this more seriously! It's supposed to be fun too. I miss seeing a lot of my old followers. It seems that they are either not drawing or not making it on the activity page or something. I've had to go to each individual profile page of the people I follow to make sure I'm not missing some of their drawings. Anyway it's all good and I'm trying not to be a change-hater and complain anymore. .
