I borrowed an iPhone to set up my first self published quest.
Back in the day I used to draw a lot of circles on a page - then drew a different face to each. Simple eh! and great practice.
So, I drew 12 head outlines on this small iPhone screen - did I mention small (all power to those questers using iPhones - their optometrists must love them) - called it “Face Time” and posted it.
As with most posts you look back on it and rue your errors. In my case it was the texta tool not the pen - the outlines were soooo thick.
It was up for a few days before it got a little momentum. At the time of writing this there have been about 20 brave hearts who have had a go.
So what’s the problem?
It’s bloody hard to do 12 faces without quitting - switching to a chat quest or spamming for followers. I had 2 goes and was exhausted by reaching the last head in each.
My favourite so far is by “Chickenhead”. Let’s call him a him. I have been following him for a while… Some really good drawings and clever ideas, so when I saw his Face Time attempt I wasn’t surprised so much as blown away.
So much so, I did a playback. It took the best part of 45 minutes… Yep!!! 45 minutes. Now, playback is quicker than the real thing so it was a labour of love for Chickenhead but even though, at times, he probably regretted starting the quest the end result is worth more than a lingering look.
Apart from learning some new techniques - thanks “Chick” a bonus - I was able to share in his inspiration, hesitation, frustration, perseverance and talent. Thank you DrawQuest for the playback feature and thanks Chickenhead for the master class.
One of those occasions when one star just isn’t enough.
Happy New Year everyone

MeanGeri step forward and receive a "When one star just isn't enough" Award for your "What happened to his shadow" drawing. It was so very, very clever - not badly drawn either <grin>.
OK, move on everybody, the ceremony is over....

You are correct Zanuda. I was one of many that drew the rabbit and shadow. I felt so bad when I saw MeanGeri's interpretation which was drawn so well. She did a wonderful job of drawing. There were several done very well and the ones that were selected for explore were by far the best of the bunch.

The Awards committee (of one) met in emergency session and, after the reviewing the investigative reports of recent posts, have issued the following statement...
""We are saddened by recent provenance revelations. To ensure the integrity of the "When one star just isn't enough" Award is not further compromised we are forthwith stripping Meangeri of the award. In its place we award her with the new "Taking an Existing Idea and Making it into a Bloody Good Drawing" Award effective immediately.""
... and just when I thought the forum had gotten boring a tragedy is averted and a new award created.
cheers wilso

I would not be in favor of stripping MeanGeri of any award that was already presented. Instead I would give MeanGeri another award. Both awards would be well earned.

Thinking about the title of this thread, the dust settling from the iPhone questers and the number of really good drawings out there on a daily basis led to this wee post. The wee thingy probably worries some of you knowing, as you do, how wilso has carried on at length in the past. The new me. Brevity personified. [smirk]
I remember, quite clearly, the Chicken Littles, bemoaning the iPhone influx akin almost to an alien invasion - they copped the blame for global warming, Justin Bieber's alleged drug issues, oh, and, activity feed blockages.
But, how good are they? I borrowed an iPhone, a couple of times, and tried creating a couple of quests. Those screens are sooooo small and yet there are so many great iPhone user questers out there I am staggered (partly caused by the constant zooming on the iPhone but largely by the quality of the work, increasingly home delivered to my activity feed). Another bonus, the quest creation function has been a blessed relief from the 12 days of Christmas, the 10 days of Halloween, the 8 days of snow quests. I can hardly wait for George Washington's birthday week.
Let's face it DrawQuest is now an international phenomenon - its about time the quest creators in the DrawQuest basement opened a couple of windows and embraced the diversity of its supporter base with some global quests.
The downside. I have followed quite a number of the iPhoners and some love chatting as much as drawing - as such my activity feed has grown exponentially. Being a soapie at heart I now find I have to go to their activity feeds to get all the "goss" from one source. wilso the tragic.
Oh, I have it on good authority an Android version of DrawQuest is being developed. If the iPhoners were an influx, what would the Androiders be - a tsunami?
cheers wilso
ps the new wilso - brevity - promised and delivered.
