I try to stay at least an inch from the edges and find this slide effect happens less often. It is really irritating and I wish that there was a screen lock feature for this so that the screen would only move with a 3 push by the user. after some time I'm used to carefully adding color or outlining so zooms will not randomly move around. I just hate the random dots that appear when 3-finger-tap is not done perfectly and the app things I'm trying to draw a line.
But it's fixable anyway. Just erase or cover with a solid color matching the background.
This is also why i use the paintbrush tool last since it's hard to fix mistake spots when background is blended with painbrush. There's a noticeable little off-color dot. LOL Well, it's not too noticeable for really light colors and if there are far to many things on the drawing that my mistake spots won't be noticed. XD I love the paint brush, but it is so unforgiving of mistakes that I barely use it. I hate when you are filling a space near the edges and you accidentally slip off the edge and end up with the layered effect. It makes you want to scream when you're filling a large space and are almost done when it happens. I hope one of the next features added is a Fill tool for filling in large spaces with one tap.

Well, I stuck to my guns, and guess what? I got more accurate, even with a soft nib. It's not as detailed as before, but I guess that's a matter of practice. Swift flicks with the wrist, none of that meticulous prodding with a stylus. Anticipate the movement of the stylus and pull it across the glass with confidence. No zooming needed.

There's a noticeable little off-color dot. LOL Well, it's not too noticeable for really light colors and if there are far to many things on the drawing that my mistake spots won't be noticed. XD Maybe you could go one step further, and accept the flaws of the app as quirks, not erasing the dots. While you know that those dots are there, most casual observers won't. And yet again, I myself am tempted to go even further, and not zoom in at all, as a limitation and self-challenge. It will force me to work around the lack of detail. Remember, it is working with other apps which have given you the expectation to be able to render detail by zooming in. Managing those expectations, by adapting your drawing technique to suggest detail where there is little could surprise you and make you wonder what all the fuss was about when you were constantly zooming in and perhaps be amused by your naïveté and not being able at the time to see things different. Beginner's mind, not having any expectations is a valuable thing. We can't have it, but we can take a step back and observe our actions and find alternative ways to do the same thing. We don't want to be pigeonholed by passed experiences in how we approach new situations and new tools. Fussing about the tools takes away brain cycles from what really matters, getting a result out the door. True artists ship. They don't complain about the situation they're in, but use their creativity to work around limitations. Sir, yes I did say it's quite an annoying thing but I don't always complain (unless it is about being unable to use the app due to problems by the app itself like server problems and whatnot that is no longer my iPad's problem). And I did say I work around it by using flat colors so mistakes can be cleaned LATER. I know the app has limitations and I am fine with it, besides, there are solutions available.
Some people like to utilize zoom, some don't for whatever reasons they have (either they don't know or they want to challenge themselves to not use zoom). For me I have no problems if someone uses zoom or not, everyone is free to do whatever they want.
I posted the statement that I hate the random dots but I said it in a mild annoyed tone, not one that is flipping off in rage or whatever. I merely pointed out that the random dots is the sometimes unpleasant product of using zoom.

Hello! I completely forgot about this. I've had this link bookmarked for a while. It's a guy that blogs art classes, there are a lot of helpful tips here and it helped me in the past quite a bit. thehelpfulartteacher.blogspot.com/

The zoom tool is definitely very helpful for lettering and 'perfectly' outlining things, which I have trouble doing. You get used to the moving and dots. You all worried me when you brought up the topic of being under 13. From what I've heard, it looks like I'm okay... Also, does anyone have any tips for shading in large areas? It seems to take me too long to fill them in.

It seems to take me too long to fill them in. marker everything as close as you can without actually touching your drawing. Then pencil the small gaps.
If you just want to fill the entire drawing area with a flat color, then just try to be patient. Sometimes in the middle of filling the whole drawing area with flat color via market, it lags... So just be patient. :3
Same goes for using paintbrush to shade. Better to have flat colors underneath to erase mistakes, especially when you stray to the edge and mess the shading.
I use the paintbrush tool last and slowly move around areas i want to shade. I try not to lift my finger while i am checking if all areas i need to shade are shaded, before i lift and apply second coat to darken it further

for me... i just try to be patient and don't move my finger/stylus too fast so i won't accidentally lag or lift my finger. It's a bummer to have a gap in areas needed to be shaded when i am looking for a clean shaded look.
Sometimes when things really lag when i shade large areas i stop shading without lifting my finger then move again after a few seconds. Sometimes it works for me. The lag disappears. Sometimes it doesn't.
Ahh, i think i was not able to explain well. Sorry (>_<)

Hello,
I have started playing with the accessibility features on my ipad. Without success, I have been trying to record in the assistive touch, the zoom 3 tap gesture. THAT would prevent my drawings from getting the infamous chicken pox aka the little dots when I zoom in. I would just use the favourite in the accessibility white button to trigger the zoom.
Has anyone tried that successfully?
On the same line, is there a way to select the corner where the accessibility button shows-up?
Thanks!
P.S. Special thanks to Wilso for all his hints.

What I do is have a spot that is mainly one solid color and use that for my zoom dots.
Also the zoom dots don't always show up on you're submitted drawing! I would play around with it a little, submit a drawing to see how many of them show up and then delete it once you have the information you need! =]

Has anyone's zoom stopped working? Some days, when I do the 3-finger tap, the image hardly gets bigger. Rather harder to do my detail work. Any suggestions?

You can zoom more or less with the zoom feature. Just double tap the three fingers and before lifting them up on the second tap, spread them out and it'll zoom in, pulling your fingers in will zoom out!
