I hate the JOT so much that I would be happy to get ride of it and to give it to you, with the flux / paste thing! Are you in Canada? I read that you can put a go smart stylus tip on the jot pro if you want to. I also tried the silver thermal stuff on the jot pro and it works better. But I'm looking forward to getting my replacement Go Smart in the mail. Thanks for the idea Regcas! I do not like things going to waste, so I may try that, as a back up stylus. I just dropped my GoSmart on the floor this morning and thought about you. Ouf! My goSmart is Ok! The protective cap was on and the fall not that bad. During my last trip, I did not bring it with me for fear of breaking/loosing it. Went back using my old bamboo with hard nib. Yeik. Not fun. Hope you get yours soon!

Hey lami, I still haven't received my go smart stylus but I have been using my jot pro and it has been GREAT since I put that silver thermal stuff under the nib. But then I broke off the silver wire thing on that this morning! I just stuck the disk on and maybe it will work that way until my go smart gets here. Anyway, the point is, keep your jot and get that silver thermal stuff and you will be really pleased with the results. You need an extra stylus anyway cuz it will break. If you can't find the silver thermal stuff, I have an extra tube and I'll send it to you. They give you enough to last three lifetimes. Okay bye for now. Regcas

I already have the paste stuff. What is killing me is the process of putting the paste in the Jot... so my old Bamboo is my back up stylus and the jot is gathering dust. I like your idea of putting a goSmart tip in the jot, no maintenance. I plan to do that for sure. Will let you know how it goes. Take care!

Lami I just put a wee amount of paste just under the plastic disc then wiped most of it off so I could see thru the disc again. It worked. Now I broke off the wire thing on my jot and found the plastic disc in my chair but not the wirey thing. Oh snap. So I tried this stupid idea of just sticking the plastic disc onto the metal tip that comes out of the jot and it still works. Amazing!! So I wrote Steven at go smart and told him I haven't received my replacement yet. He got right back to me and said " the morons in the mail room dropped the ball". So he put another in the mail and said if I send some drawings that I've done with my go smart he will send me another stylus too. O MG. I said I'm going to tell my fellow DQers about this ( the go smart ones like me and you) and we will all send drawing. So what do you thing. Want a free stylus my friend? I don't know if he will do it for everyone so lets you and me try first and keep it on the down low. . Regcas

Wish I had read all these posts before I chose my stylus! Instead I have been learning the hard way. I bought a Bamboo stylus first, and the tip wore out after two or three hours of drawing! I sent that one back and tried a Truglide, because it advertised its long lasting microfibre tip. This one wore out after a week or two of drawing. Next I ordered a Jot Pro. At first I loved its precision, but soon discovered how high maintenance it is. After a week or so, it kept skipping or refusing to draw. I got into the habit of removing then cleaning the tip with silver polish. This worked for a while, but soon I had to repeat the process at least once every drawing session.
I then took the ipad to Iceland to run an animation workshop, using Animation Desk. (Check it out, fellow DQers, you will love it!) One of my students was buzy drawing when the disk fell off the tip. (Adonit do warn you this will happen if you remove it too often for cleaning.) We spent 2 hours hunting for it, even pulled up floorboards to no avail. I then ordered two replacement tips on Amazon, but they were the ones for the old version of the Jot Pro and were too big. A little more research, and I found no one in the UK stock the right size, and Adonit will not ship to the UK via their web site. So I wrote to them direct with this story. They sent me 6 disks free from USA.
All this explains why I was absent from DQ for a couple of months! However, soon after I replaced the disk, the same old problems returned. I tried cleaning with silver polish, but it didn't help much, and soon the first new tip fell off and was lost. I am on tip number two. Yesterday I tried kitchen cream cleaner instead of silver polish, and thoroughly scrubbed all the metal parts. So far it has worked flawlessly. But..I can't wait to try a GoSmart! Jot Pros are such hard work!

I will indeed. Meanwhile, I have noticed that I can't always blame the Jot Pro when it is skipping lines. When it's being really laggy, I jump out of DQ and test it on Bamboo's drawing app. Usually, it works almost perfectly on there, but continues to lag in DQ. Others suggest switching off all apps running in the background to reduce DQ lag, but when I tried this it made no difference. Does this mean drawing performance relates to how busy DQ's servers are? I wouldn't have thought so, because drawings are saved on the ipad before you upload them. But there again, I'm no techie. Any other insights folks?

I would think that it is definitively not related to the DQ server. I often draw offline when going to waiting room for appointment, in places where there is no connectivity. (And do the upload later, when I am back on the network). So that makes me think it is related to the iPad and what is running on it. Uineya can explain better then me! With the GoSmart, the only skipping I sometimes did experience was when I zoomed to the max and draw too fast. So I have learn to go slowly at max zoom so no skipping anymore. The weird behaviours I have encountered on my part are: 1) after an UNDO that takes a lot of time, if I use the pen, it only draw straight lines, no curves. 2) only when zooming, switching to the thin pen sometimes gets me large square pixels that disappear at the next strokes. Weird.

I was not aware you could draw off line on DQ.

I was not aware you could draw off line on DQ. If you open up a drawing while your connected to the internet, you can draw all you want on that single drawing, you just can't submit it until your back online.
