I noticed that this board is not used very much anymore and there have been only 4 people in the last 24 hours of posting this.
I want to apologize for not being very attentive the last few months. We lost a lot of people at my job and I have been putting in ridiculous hours to keep up with work, I also lost my internet for a while which did not help. However if we decide to keep it open, I will be more available.

I know most of us have turned to Twitter, I'd like to see this board around even if it's not used much. But I'd understand if shut down.

I feel bad for neglecting the board. Perhaps it's time to draw attention to it again.

It would be a pity to close it down. Not everyone is on Twitter and in any case this board is quite different with lots of tips and interesting posts.
Such a pity there has been a mass migration to Sketch Club. I know there is a loyal band who post on both sites, but quite a number of talented people have just deserted DQ totally and of course the numbers using this board have dwindled accordingly.
However, quite a number of people, including myself, have looked at Sketch Club and decided the sophistication and copious comments on ones work is not their scene. We have remained loyal to DQ and draw most days. Yes, DQ is capricious and takes it's time to load, but it's still running and I do feel we should all support it and show solidarity. I understand they will do their best to keep it running in it's present form as long as possible.
So please, those of you who have gone over to Sketch Club, spare a thought for DQ, support it and contribute the occasional drawing and vote to keep this meetup board open .

I use both DQ and SC. I do miss some of the talent that left DQ and went exclusively to SC. That being said there is still a lot of talent I enjoy on DQ and do not plan to vacate. I like this board and had visited several times but not a lot of activity. I really do not enjoy twitter to communicate but if that is how i need to reach someone I will use it. To fragmented for me. I hope this stays open and becomes more used in the future because I have met so many lovely people here and had help with questions. So I am voting for it to stay open and I will visit more.

I'm not on twitter either, but keep wondering if I should be. I often see references in drawings that I assume began on Twitter as they make no sense otherwise - e.g. The Draw Mob. Even though I haven't been on this board for a while, I'd be sad to see it fold before Drawquest itself ends. I've noticed many artists no longer on DQ - miss them. Haven't drawn anything on Sketch Club yet. Thanks, heap, for your efforts despite your busy schedule.

I don't have much time to get on every form of communication but totally committed to DrawQuest and this form of communication with others. I use my email address for business, and will have nothing to do with Twitter or Facebook for many reasons. So I must thank all of you for keeping this board open for the time being and all the wonderful art work and artist I have met. Bless you Heap241 for your honesty and loyalty, as you reach out to others. I am not sure how I can help but always open for suggestions. SEMPER FI

Hi everyone, I joined Scetch Club in order to check it out and see what it is all about when I heard DQ was closing. I love DQ so much more and find myself as of late feeling a little anxious about DQ just disappearing one day. I have Schetch club waiting for just in case but will continue on DQ until that day. I have not posted here much but have read a lot of the posts and have found them to be super helpful. Thank you all for all the info! I have voted to keep it open. If it does stay open, I will participate more in the conversations with you guys! Your in art, Stayze

I will abstain from the vote. I was the moderator of an active board when Microsoft pulled the plug. I know it's a two edge sword, nice if it stays active but a relief if it goes away. I do check in with some frequency but have not posted for some time. Still draw daily on DQ but it is a different world now. Don't really draw much on SketchClub but do move drawings over from DQ if I have one that fits the daily challenge.
I probably shouldn't say it but I can't see DQ lasting. I just don't see how they can generate enough revenue to sustain operation from the few of us willing to buy useless coins.
SketchClub has promise and eventually I will spend more time there. I just have problems accepting all the tools to make it easier to create 'art'. Importing a photo and tracing it is not my idea of how to do a drawing. Tried it once and was not pleased with the result or how I felt about it. In DQ I know every one uses the same tools and starts with a blank screen. Old school ( is that even an appropriate response in this digital drawing world) seems a better choice.

Corky how right you are, very astute about your summation of DQ and we have heard nothing further from Moot!
If it collapses I will miss it. I opened an account with SC but it's not for me. I like creativity and free draw, I love humour and a sideways look at things. I totally agree, one doesn't need a host of sophisticated tools to produce and create a drawing. I am not interested copying photos or using clever tools to draw, so will probably never produce anything on SC Apart from anything else I simply don't have the time to wade through their manuals. Simplicity is my middle name!
Understand entirely why you didn't vote, but so glad that you're loyal to DQ. I enjoy your work and always look out for your drawings,
Dee

I appreciate you guys really take the time and care into considering the vote.
I'm going to email moot now, give him our voice and see if there's anything we can do to keep DQ up.
I have to admit, I myself was tempted to use SC but it's just as corky said, the things I love about DQ are the true talent you have to have to truly produce something, the raw talent, that everyone uses the same tools. There is no importing images, as soon as I saw that I was completely turned off to the idea. DQ is like a comfort away from home and work that (when I have the time) I can escape to, even just to look at everyone else's beautiful drawings.
I'll keep you guys posted on responses. But please, if you guys decide to keep this board open, please use it. I'm at the point where I don't care how related it is to drawquest, just as long as we don't loose the community, family and friendship we have all tried so hard and desperately to create.

Just a thought about Sketch Club.
If you use the brush set to size 4 it is very similar to the pencil in DQ. You can increase the brush size to equate to the DQ marker. Then add the fill tool to avoid having to draw in all your colors and you have in essence what DQ would probably have been after a couple of upgrades that didn't happen. The paint brush can also be duplicated by lowering the opacity to get the water color effect.
That's basically how I intend to use Sketch Club, if and/or when DQ goes away. We don't have to use all the fancy tools and effects.

Thank you Neferzi, glad you like my drawings and so pleased you continue to post on DQ your drawings are quite unique and I love them.
A quick word to Corky regarding Sketch Club. I'm sure your right, but I just found the whole layout of the app so off putting that even simplifying the tools won't work for me. I just like to pick up a pencil or brush and create something. It doesn't matter to me whether people comment on it or not. It's so competitive, with all the stats. analysis , number of brush strokes, time taken, erasures, who needs this? I wonder did anyone clock Michelangelo when he painted the Sistine chapel. Apologies for being facetious, but that's the effect Sketch Club has on me.
Love the humour in your drawings Corky, so hope you'll continue to post on DQ for a very long time. Have you any ideas for publicising this board more?

DeeDee, I understand your concerns, I'm still put off by SC but it is a viable alternative to DQ since it's demise is pretty much assured. Even if they stay up and running, without developers it will ultimately not function when Apple updates the iOS to the point DQ won't function as written.
Just to make a point. It took Michelangelo four years to complete the work in the chapel and Pope Julius II probably made his life hell during the entire time, including taking time to fight a war and going so far as to almost die (thus threatening his commission). I try to ignore the general population on SC I only follow and 'star' my DQ peeps.
I will include some post on Twitter about the board and see if we can generate a bit more traffic.
Hope I wasn't too pointed in my comments, I am loyal to you, DQ and this board.

Hey guys, finally got a response from moot!
-- Thanks for the kind note.
Unfortunately I don't think there's much the DrawQuest community can do to help out with our situation. It really just boils down to DQ not being viable as a business, and to that end we had to lay off the team in order to reduce operating costs to the bare minimum.
With the cash we have left, I think we can continue to pay for the servers for another year or so, and are still exploring other options. But it's very unlikely the app will see any further feature development, and it will more or less remain in stasis.
Best,
Chris

And there you have it, we have one year left.

But Corky did anyone actually count the brush strokes! Anyway thanks for the history lesson and thanks too that you will do some publicity work for this post on Twitter. You will have seen the reply from Moot and great if he can keep things going for another year, perhaps in a year I will feel more mellow towards Sketch Club and it's sophisticated methods.

Thanks for all your hard work Heap, and I do hope people continue to use the board, all it needs is one post and that usually generates a host of interest and replies. I've noted what Moot said and delighted that DQ will keep running for another year. I'm not sure what his "other options" can be. When he announced the demise of Draw Quest I read all the newspaper articles, both here in the UK and in the US. My understanding is that he tried hard to sell it before the announcement, but had no takers. Apparently he didn't have enough people using it. With the migration to Sketch Club, he now has even fewer people using it . . . so a sale would seem unlikely. However he's quite an entrepreneur so possibly has other ideas in mind. We will watch his space.
