I've also tried echidnas and Leo's idea about logging out then in before a big undertaking. As I have also lost a drawing or three that I've spent hours on and was so pissed! After log out/ in it didn't happen again. It also helps to logout the in if you're having problems starring others drawings and the color won't stay yellow. Don't know why but after I re- entered the app, the star stayed yellow. Love you guys. Regcas

Flagging as inappropriate seems a little risky? With YouTube if you are flagged for piracy three times your membership is suspended I think. I hope there's not anything similar in DQ. (I'm sure there isn't but even so it's something I'd be wary about doing...) Hi Kercal. I only recently learned what 'flagging' was for as I had emailed DQ about an inappropriate drawing. The DQ staff member said that flagging alerts their team to the drawing, which they can look at and decide what to do. I used this method today and noticed that as soon as I flagged it, the drawing was removed from the quest. DQ says that sometimes it can take a while before a staff person can deal with the flagged drawing. In my case, they took the immediate action of emailing the first person I mentioned (it was a serious matter). I'm not sure what would happen if a person is flagged 3 times, but it might be worth asking DQ about this. From my one experience, DQ did communicate with the quester directly. Hope this helps.

I DQ most from reference so it helps to have my phone handy so I don't have to keep switching to and from DQ.
Also I like to zoom in from outlining and detail. If you keep your picture more in the center of the screen the is less tendency to the auto scroll to take off on you.

I am pleased that the DQ staff are active and they immediately look at the flagged drawing to check if it's really meant to be deleted or not, and contacting the quester concerned.

for writing on the drawing area.
Zoom in to max zoom then Write slowly. The prob is that since you're technically writing something small, the ipad surface is trying to identify your movements, so if you write too fast: example, writing a letter L, it may look like a \ since the app got confused on what you wrote.
Same goes for outlines. Especially if you want really clean outlines

If you use a reference photo (e.g. in your Photos app), don't use a 4- or 5-finger swipe, but double-click the home button to display the app tray and pick the app you want. I often see the app registering the swipe as a random point. And BTW, you should use reference. There's nothing wrong with that. Just don't literally make a copy of the reference. Only use parts of it, combine them, or interpret them so it fits your drawing. Here are some general drawing tips I found useful, even outside DrawQuest. If you're not sure how to make a certain drawing or effect, look for tutorials. DeviantART.com and DragoArt.com are good sources of tutorials. Mind you, tutorials are a starting point, not a recipe. You still need to give it your own spin. But it's good practice and an opportunity to broaden your visual language. It may seem lame, but try to redraw a quest you like from another artist. Use it as a reference and redraw it as you think you would draw it. You can decide to not submit it, or submit it with a statement that you copied it from so-and-so in the drawing. The same goes for when you copy from an existing piece of art. Give the original artist credit, always! Also, art isn't made in a vacuum, so don't try too hard to be original. Truly original art is rare and seldom understood nor appreciated by others, because it stands on its own.

I noticed questers mentioning "zooming in" how do I do this? It is a Setting on your iPad. Go to Settings, General, Accessibility, Zoom. Then it's a three finger double tap and slide up to zoom In and three finger double tap and slide down to return to normal. A single tap and drag with three fingers will allow movement right or left. It's far from perfect but it's better than nothing. You will have problems with extra dots here and there and unwanted quick drawing if you get to close to the edge of the screen. Practice, and good luck. Don't know what I would do without it but it can be a real pain sometimes. Corky
