I saw these two great tips posted elsewhere today:
For stylus users---use your finger for coloring in large areas in your drawings. This will help reduce the stress on the rubber tips of your stylus. (Thanks Kingrum)
To "erase" part or all of the original DQ drawing, color over it with white or other background color. (Thanks Jenpie)

Start off with solid colours rather than the paintbrush until you've sketched out ideas. It makes it easier to get back to an earlier 'layer' if you make a mistake and is often quicker than using the undo button.

If I'm drawing on a white background and need a sharp pointed tip (like on a triangle) or straight edges (like the corner of a square) I'll swipe past it with the eraser to make a crisp clean line. Use the same technique with colors on colored backgrounds.

If you're using iPad it can be useful to use the lock screen facility. It enables you to work closely on the top of your picture without having to rest your hand on the screen. Also helpful if you're drawing something upside down.

As much as I love color blending, It can be frustrating trying to get an overlay all in one layer without pesky overlap lines, so I have found it easier to use solid color to fix mistakes, too.

Outline everything! One thing I notice is the given image is outlined in the dark grey colour and when people try to redraw it without outlining it doesn't look as nice. When your done drawing just outline what you've done-it looks finished and blends into what your given part of the drawing is.

Thanks MiniSACo, I appreciate the Texture Practice. If possible, can you break the texture practice into categories. Especially for beginners like me. Takes long to continue to playback, we have no rewind. Just an idea bushes, scrubs, leaves waterfall, waves, streams Hay, sand, rocks

dounome that's a good idea it would also interest me to see how others create these textures.

Hello all, this isn't much of a tip, but I've seen a few comments by DQers wanting to delete some of their own drawings. I've gotten rid of some of mine by flagging them as inappropriate. When you select the button in between the "play" and "star" button, four new buttons appear, a red flag, Facebook, twitter and an "X" (that will return you to the previous button), if you select the red flag, you will be asked if you are sure you want to flag the drawing as inappropriate, if you select "yes", the drawing will be deleted from your gallery.

Thanks Alzheimer129. I did manage to do this once then promptly forgot how I did it! Forgetfulness is a problem for me so I find having another app where I can jot down ideas as I look at other questers' work is vital. I may not get to draw all of them but there's nothing worse than losing a good idea in the middle of the night and trying to remember who or what inspired it.

Wow, great tip by everyone! Really looking forward to the texture tips too by Mimi:)
Btw, flagging an image as inappropriate deletes the image from your view but not necessarily from everyone else's. i think they may have a counter (need x amount flags before auto-removing them from public galleries) to avoid misusing of flags to 'bury' someone.

Aww man, I was hoping I got rid of those for good. Hopefully the next update will include a way to delete your own drawings. Thanks Leo, Al

Best tip I can offer (especially for older devices) is log out and back in to DQ before undertaking a big drawing. Seems to me that the DQ cache gets full with too much drawing history and lags lags lags, sometimes even resulting in an entire in-progress drawing getting dumped while uploading. LeoSketchy told me about logging out and logging in to clear the cache and that just sped up overall performance (especially when trying to use the 'undo' button) for me tremendously.

Great tips! Thanks everyone! I tried UFO pilot's ZOOM tip and that was trippy, but cool. I will try the locked screen tip. I, too, am interested in creating different textures. I can experiment, but it would also be cool to know how you all do it! I felt very proud of myself when I figured out how to make my hats "furry" for my Fuzzy Hat Brigade picture. Later I found someone else had a similar idea and had drawn furry hats much more realistically than mine.

OH NO. I just logged out and logged back in, and lost all of my drawings before March 18th. They were just there when I checked my profile an hour ago, now over a months worth of drawings are gone.

Alzheimer129, Rumor has it we will get them back next go around. It has been suggested by other wise questers like Echidna Q to star your own drawing after you finish or if email settings are on once someone stars your drawing it will have the link with your pic that would be emailed to you. ( I deleted my emails, oops) I personally choose to take a screen shot before pressing done. When I found out only 50 pics would be in my profile I went thru and took shots of all of my favorites. Because of this I also save screen shots of other questers work that I really like.
If you are missing a particular one you really liked you can contact Drawquest and they will retrieve it for you.
If you have twitter there are a few of us on there as well and post work to the feed for others to enjoy!

Thank you Dr. Cupcake. That is really good advice. I've been taking screen shots of everything since my Draw Something days, but I send them to my phone and delete them from my iPad (not sure why, it's not like I'm hurting for room). I was just sad that they weren't on my profile page anymore. That's weird, someone just starred one of my older drawings and now it is showing up in my profile as I was typing this. Are they only hidden from us until someone stars them?

I don't think they are hidden. Another DQ mystery. Maybe someone else may know
